Monthly Advisory
The demand for Phthalic Anhydride (PA) in India tends to remain constant throughout the year. However, during the monsoon season (between March-July) it increases marginally, in the range of 10%-20%. The current production capacity for PA in India stands at 287,400 metric tonnes (MT) and it meets the current domestic demand.

However, Indian PA manufacturers are battling for survival as under cheaper imports, their margins have declined quite sharply. Small manufacturers have been facing huge losses. On an average India imports PA in the range of 5,000 to 6,000 MT per month. It was in keeping with cheap imports that Mysore petro had to shutdown its operations last year.
Apart from TCL and IG Petro, no other manufacturer - including the S.I group and Asian Paints - can boast of a pan-India presence. Asian Paints has a captive consumption and that reduces their market penetration to just around 500 MT every month. S.I group on the other hand caters to the western region of the country, that accounts for a major portion of the consumption of PA in India.
