Petrochemicals

Petrochemicals are the most widely consumed raw materials across a wide range of end-user industries and go into nearly every commodity of daily use. The petrochemical industry is fully deregulated, and prices are set by demand and supply. As a result, prices are volatile.

Demand for petrochemicals in India is growing fast, and domestic supply has not kept up. Imports are therefore an important part of the industry.

The main petrochemical producers in India are Reliance Industries Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, GAIL (India) Limited and Haldia Petrochemicals Limited. Alongside them are ONGC Petro additions Limited, HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited, Brahmaputra Cracker & Polymer Ltd, Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd, which absorbed OMPL on 1 May 2022, and Nayara Energy, with 450 KTPA of PP at Vadinar. Styrenics come from Supreme Petrochem Limited, Bhansali Engineering Polymers Limited and Styrenix Performance Materials Limited (formerly INEOS Styrolution India Ltd).
