Monthly Advisory
Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) in India is a lucrative market as the entire Indian demand of VAM is met through imports. There is currently no domestic production of VAM, as Jubilant Organosys Limited halted its VAM manufacturing operation in 2009. However, this is set to change with the entry of new players.

The average monthly demand for VAM in India is between 12,000MT to 15,000MT. The demand for VAM has increased at a CAGR of 9.9% over the last few years. Also, imports have increased at a significant CAGR of more than 19% over the last decade.
The above figures clearly indicate that there is massive scope for setting up new production facilities. But cheaper imports, that diminished margins for VAM plants earlier, still dominate the market and have so far obstructed any capacity addition.
VAM is used in the manufacture of polyvinyl acetate or vinyl acetate copolymers. These polymers are the base for many industrial and consumer products, as well as for other polymers. Due to its good resistivity, it is widely used in construction, machinery, automobiles, the paper industry, packaging, textiles, printing and dyeing, cigarettes, furniture and printing.
