VAM goes into polyvinyl acetate and vinyl acetate copolymers, which in turn are the base for many industrial and consumer products and for other polymers. Its good resistance properties take it into construction, machinery and automobiles; the paper industry, packaging and textiles; printing and dyeing; and cigarettes and furniture.

Average monthly demand for VAM in India is 17,000 MT to 19,000 MT. With no domestic production, imports have grown in step with demand, at about 3% a year from 2017-18 to 2025-26.

Those figures leave clear room for new production facilities, and new players entering the market could change the picture. So far, though, cheap imports, which squeezed the margins of VAM plants in the past, still dominate and have held back any new capacity.
