Demand for MEK and secondary butyl alcohol (SBA) in India has grown modestly but steadily over the last decade, about 1% a year for MEK from 2017-18 to 2025-26. The buyers are makers of paints and coatings, aroma chemicals, printing inks and adhesives, along with speciality pharmaceutical intermediates and lube additives.

India uses an estimated 56,200 MT of MEK a year, so much of the market runs on imports, mainly from China, Taiwan and South Africa.
