In India, pharmaceuticals drive iso-propanol demand more than anything else, and the industry's healthy growth should make it the main source of new demand. Chemicals, and coatings and inks, are the other big consumers, and both should grow too.

Western and northern India use more than half of the country's IPA. The south and east should use more as their pharmaceutical industry grows.

Demand for iso-propanol has grown strongly. Two companies make IPA in India: Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Limited, which started production in 2006 and has about 100,000 TPA of capacity after an expansion in 2019, and Deepak Phenolics Limited, producing at Dahej since 2020. India also imports IPA, about 109 KT in 2023-24, and Deepak Chem Tech is building a 100 KTA IPA plant at Dahej, due by 2027-28.

Worldwide, cosmetics, household products and pharmaceuticals drive isopropanol demand. Mainland China has nearly 30% of global capacity, and it, the United States and Western Europe are the largest consumers. In pharmaceuticals, India and China are among the fastest-growing markets; in solvents, the USA and Europe lead.
