Acetone production in India has grown strongly since Deepak Phenolics started its Dahej plant in 2018. Demand has grown at a decent pace too, yet net imports (imports minus exports) fell from about 142 KT in 2017-18 to an estimated 121 KT in 2025-26.

Most acetone is used as a solvent, or turned into acetone cyanohydrin to make methyl methacrylate. In workshops it thins polyester resin, cleans tools, dissolves two-part epoxies and superglue before they harden, and degreases metal before painting. It is flammable, yet it is also how acetylene is stored and moved safely, since pure acetylene cannot be safely pressurised.
