Demand for styrene in India is rising 5.2% a year. Polystyrene, more than 30% of styrene end use in India, tends to fall off when the monsoon sets in. There is no domestic manufacturer, and the only planned plant, IndianOil's 387 KTA unit at Panipat, has yet to start, so the gap between supply and demand keeps widening.

Styrene trades in every major Indian city, but the big buyers are in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and northern India.
