Green hydrogen can solve one problem and excarbate anoth – 16 Sep 2024

In water stressed India, green hydrogen and ammonia production will use a lot of water

For a 1 MMTPA hydrogen plant, the consumption will be 9 times as much

Find out how hydrogen cost dynamics will change when this element is taking into account

The cost will he higher but not something that is not manageable

Most of the ammonia-urea units in India are dependent on ground water and it is best, as government policy, to push for use of desalinized water in green hydrogen projects

That will add a layer of cost but not that much that it will be insurmountable

But there is one serious drawback to the system and if that is not tackled radically, it can make green ammonia as disastrous to the environment as the grey ammonia plants that are sought to be substituted
