The petrochemicals sector faces challenges in decarbonization with current technologies. Despite stagnant carbon intensity, direct CO2 emissions grew by 41% from 2010 to 2020

To achieve net zero emissions by 2050, a 12% reduction in direct emissions is required from 2020 to 2030, followed by accelerated reductions using advancing low-carbon technologies
