Slow- or controlled-release fertilizers are designed such that the active fertilizing agent is released in a delayed/controlled way, specifically taking into consideration plants' nutrient requirement therefore providing superior nutrient use efficiency and halting the environmental pollution caused by leaching of surplus nutrient into soil and water.
