Offshore wind: What India needs to do – 4 Apr 2022

Apr 04, 2022

India has been long talking of offshore wind energy projects.

And more than one project has been on the drawing board for sometime

But along with that ambition, a lot of work has to be done both by project promoters as well as vendors for the associated demand for major fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind components (e.g., wind turbines, foundations, cables, substations), and the vessel and port requirements to support those installation activities.

There are examples there however of sensitivity analyses showing how the demand for components, ports, and vessels changes for different technology pathways and availability of the global supply chain.

There is data available now on critical path components that represent a significant challenge, bottleneck, or risk for a future domestic supply chain when a country develops its offshore wind capabiliities
