The Americans are on a warpath and are talking tough not just to the Chinese but also to the Indian government on staying away from Russia.

Any attempt to break the sanctions on Russia would attract counter sanctions on the third party, the Americans have warned.

If India were to break the American diktat under a barter trading arrangement, then will the multinationals working in the oil & gas sector for example, particularly in the E&P as well as in the EPC and equipment supplying spaces in mid-stream and downstream segments be forced by US counter sanctions to stop supplying critical equipment to India or stop working altogether? Of course nothing can be as harsh as what has been imposed on Russia, but it is not known to what extent the US will go to push its agenda in Europe.

In this context, is it better then to become as Atmanirbhar as possible, while also looking for alternative supplies, perhaps from China?

Which kind of companies are likely to stop working in India if sanctions are invoked?

Indian fell in line with the Americans when Iran was sanctioned this time around, and we permanently damaged what was our time-tested relationship with that country, are we willing to stand by and do the same with Russia?
