Demand for Poly Carbonate (PC) has been moderate in Indian markets, and there have been no major change in its price. PC is an engineering polymer used mainly in manufacture of automotive components, sheets, housewares, electrical as well as electrical appliances, apart from other usages.India is devoid of any PC plant, and the entire consumption in the country has, thus, to be imported. According to the available information, demand for the engineering polymer in the country is at around 133,000 tonne per annum, and the prominent countries of import are: Thailand and Singapore. Currently, the engineering polymer is priced at Rs 185 per kg (exclusive of taxes), of Thailand origin, according to a Delhi-based trader.

Research have shown that demand for PC is growing at approximately 8%, and, consumption in the country is expected to reach 210,000 tonne in FY17.

However, the prevailing slowdown of the automobile industry in India will retard the demand for the polymer, however, this is not likely to impact price of the polymer in the country as it depends upon international rates.
