Sky-rocketing PVC prices prevail in Indian markets on severe shortage – 30 May 2014

Severe shortage of the PVC material in polymer markets in India has resulted in the price going up remarkably, to around Rs 97 a kg. Stocks of the polymer in a number of markets went almost nil, as learnt. The tight stock situation has arisen as Reliance Industries Limited is yet to resume commercial operations of its expanded plant. In a communication with a source, the plant was learnt to be undergoing some start-up issues.

 

The company has been conducting trial runs of its plant, at Dahej, of which, the production capacity was expanded from 245,000 metric tonne per annum to 345,000 metric tonne per annum.
 

Most buyers were learnt to restrict from purchases in excess of their immediate requirement due to prevalence of sky-rocketing prices.
