Ludhiana polymer market hit by electricity supply disruptions – 22 Jul 2014

The demand for major commodity polymers in Ludhiana market has declined as production from major end -user industries has been impacted by power disruptions. Indianpetrochem spoke to various traders in the market and assessed that prices of PE and PP declined by Rs. 1-2 per kg, overall.

 

Traders in the Ludhiana market have ample stocks for various grades of PP and PE, however, as a consequence of electricity supply disruptions most production units (end users) have curtailed their purchases of commodity polymers. A prominent trader added, "Electricity shortage has hit us hard! This curbed purchasing habit will lead further price reduction of commodity polymers in Ludhiana market".

 

In addition to this, the onset of monsoon has further added to the woes of trades, as most end customers held back purchases.

 

At present, film grade of PP and blow molding grade of HDPE sells at Rs. 129 per kg and Rs. 130-131 Rs per kg, respectively
