FIPI: Trying to be more than a lobbying group and failing – 8 Sep 2021

Let us not beat around the bush and say that the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry is more than just an industry lobby group.

If it tries to be something else, it is not.

But it does try to give the impression of being more than just a lobbying group. One way of doing so is by bringing out oil & gas reports but the effort lacks depth and data.

The reason for that is because it just reorders publicly available data into PDF files and titles them bombastically, such as its "Policy and Economic Report for the Oil & Gas Industry" series, for example. FIPI cannot be blamed for what is trying to do

The organization's storied members should help out, by making available some of their own data to the industry body so that it can come up with some truly incisive data analysis.

Or otherwise, its attempts to become the equivalent of the American Petroleum Institute will fail.

But the problem in today's India is that no one wants to part with any information whatsoever, and who knows that better than we do
