India’s oil & gas ambitions differ from climate change objectives – 25 Aug 2021
Aug 25, 2021
India's ambitions for oil and gas are clearly out of tune with climate change projections.
If the world was to keep temperature rise at 1.5 degree centigrade, oil and gas production from India's sedimentary basins will have to drop sharply.
While these projections may appear laughable at this moment, long term planners in oil companies must keep them in mind.
For, there is no guarantee that the situation will not come to such a pass that eventually governments will not succumb to climate change pressures.
That India may find an escape route while other countries will have to fall in line with climate change targets, like arguing on the lines of proportionality in terms of average per capita consumption or production, maybe nothing but wishful thinking.
