Plastic recycling: Very big in scale now – 28 Apr 2021

Plastic recycling has become a serious business.

About 95 percent of the value of plastic packaging material, or $80 to $120 billion annually, is lost to the global economy when it is not recycled after its first use. This is particularly true for low and medium-income countries.

This indicates there is a significant economic opportunity for recyclers in a country such as India, even if only a fraction of this value is captured. Viewing discarded plastic as an opportunity for value creation is also an important step in India's transition towards more circular economy models of material and resource use.

And the scope and the challenge are enormous
