Ethyl Acetate
Ethylacetate

The world production of Ethyl Acetate increased by more than 80% between 2004 to 2011 and went beyond 3.2 million tonnes in 2013. The global market for Ethyl Acetate is growing at about 4-5% per annum.

Asia Pacific accounts for the biggest share of the overall supply. China was the dominant Ethyl Acetate producer accounting for more than half of the total production. It was followed by India, Japan, U.K. and Brazil.

Ethyl Ethanoate, commonly referred to as Acetic Ester, or Ethyl Acetate, is one of the major organic chemicals produced in India. Almost all the consuming sectors of Ethyl Acetate have witnessed growth rates of more than 10% in the past 5 years, indicating a strong demand for Ethyl Acetate. Coatings Sector is the largest consumer of Ethyl Acetate, accounting for more than half the domestic production of the country and expected to achieve growth rates close to 20% in the next 5 years. The Printing and process solvent industries are other major consumers of Ethyl Acetate in the country expected to witness modest growth in the coming years. Western region of the country is the largest hub of Ethyl Acetate consumption, accounting for more than half of domestic Ethyl Acetate consumption. Other regions of the country share approximate similar Ethyl Acetate requirements, which are however, expected to increase in the future.

The market study firmly establishes a growing demand in India for Ethyl Acetate, which has been increasing over the years, but in a non continuous manner. Ethyl acetate demand is met through domestic production. Ethyl acetate demand is driven by use as solvent for printing inks, paints and in pharmaceuticals as well as exports. India also exports significant volumes of ethyl acetate. India is self sufficient in acetic anhydride production with little trade. However, the production of Ethyl Acetate is not up to the full capacity because of the lower demand of the chemical in the country.

Laxmi Organics, JUBL and GNFC are the chief Ethyl Acetate manufacturers in the domestic market. Though demand has seen a modest growth, it is still playing catch up to the domestic production. India's excess domestic production mandates producers and exporters to export Ethyl Acetate. Currently, Turkey is the biggest importer of Indian Ethyl Acetate, importing more than a quarter of the total quantity exported from India. Belgium, Italy and Netherlands also hold a respective amount of share. Although, India needs to further expand its percentage of exports and increase the production up to its full capacity so as to enhance the export market.
